Travel to Time Tangled Island by clicking on it in the Poptropica world map. The island is located at the top of the map near the middle, to the right of Spy Island.
Go right until you encounter an upset female scientist in a white lab coat. She's crying and has red hair. Click on her to speak with her. She tells you that the future is in peril and she and her colleagues need someone to set it right.
Click on the door closest to the scientist to enter the lab.
Talk to both scientists in this room by clicking on them. They ask you to travel to the future. However, the time travel machine must first be turned on.
Go to the lowest level of the room and then go right. Keep running right until you run into the mechanism to turn on the time machine. Keep going right until the mechanism is engaged. The time machine turns on.
Go back up to the time machine and click on the door to enter. You are transported to a bleak, post-apocalyptic future.
Go left until you encounter an old man. Click on him to speak with him.
Select the "Can you help me repair the past" dialog option. The old man gives you the Time Device.
Click on the "Items" icon and select "Time Device" from the list. The Time Device resembles a pocket watch with faces in place of the hour numbers.
Click on the face corresponding to seven o'clock on the Time Device and then click the button on the side. You are taken to Thomas Jefferson's neighborhood in the year 1776.
Go right, jumping over any hedgehogs you encounter. You come to a tall, red house.
Climb the house using the window ledges until you come to the roof.
Go right. The large, tan-colored bag of salt is on top of the chimney. Jump into it to retrieve it. You can now trade the bag of salt for the Declaration of Independence later in the level.
