How to Beat the Distorted on GemCraft

"GemCraft" is a tower defense game by Armor Games and GameInABottle.com. Players must create gems with different abilities to destroy waves of enemies before the enemy creatures reach the building that represents the player's base on each level. Certain levels of the game contain "epic" bosses with large amounts of health that must be defeated to reach additional levels; the first of these epic bosses is a creature known as "The Distorted." Players must survive 31 waves of monsters before battling the boss creature that has 10,000 hit points.

Instructions

    • 1

Play all of the available levels prior to the first epic level, replaying them as necessary to improve your scores and increase your level. You should be at least level 19 or level 20 before attempting to defeat The Distorted, though you will be at a distinct advantage at a higher level such as 24 or 25, because you will have more skill points to spend.

    • 2

Click the "Reset" button on the "Skills" page to empty all of the skill points you previously spent. Max out the "More Initial and Maximum Mana," "More Mana Gain Per Kill" and "More Mana Replenish Per Second" skills, then spend your remaining skill points on "Lower Mana Cost for Gem Creating and Combining" and "Number of Basic Starter Gems."

    • 3

Enter the first epic level and place the highest-level starter gems you have available in the pre-made towers. Click the "Mana Pool" button in the upper-right corner of the "Spell" menu to expand the mana pool and increase the rate at which you earn mana; click the button a second time if it is available to increase the mana pool again.

    • 4

Advance the first three or four waves of monsters to earn extra mana once the gems you've placed are fully charged. Click the "Mana Pool" button again as soon as it appears to expand the mana pool yet again.

    • 5

Continue advancing waves of monsters when possible as your gem towers destroy the monsters currently on the field. You receive more mana from advancing waves as early as possible, but don't advance new waves if there are more than 20 to 25 monsters on the field. Keep expanding your mana pool until the maximum mana is at least 3000.

    • 6

Purchase two towers, placing them next to the pre-existing tower that is closest to the building from where the monster waves spawn. Begin purchasing water trenches as well, placing two or three trenches around the curve that surrounds the area where you're building towers. Place starter gems in these towers instead of crafting new gems.

    • 7

Expand your mana pool again after you've placed towers and water trenches. Continue alternating between mana pool expansions and placing towers and trenches around this area of the map; your goal is to have at least 10,000 or 11,000 for your mana pool maximum in advance of reaching wave 28.

    • 8

Begin crafting gems once your mana pool maximum is over 5000. Craft level 4, 5 or 6 gems only; don't bother crafting lower-level gems, as they won't damage The Distorted. Combine gems of the same color to create higher-level gems without the full cost of crafting.

    • 9

Stop purchasing towers, trenches and gems when wave 30 begins. Allow your mana to build through waves 30 and 31 so you will have at least 5000 mana when The Distorted is on the field. If The Distorted reaches your base, it will cost 4920 mana to survive, after which it will appear at the spawn location again. Provided you have higher-level gems in your towers, The Distorted should die on its second passthrough.
