Secret to Beating Black Ops Zombies

"Call of Duty: Black Ops" for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and PC allowed players to return to a mode of gameplay not seen since "Call of Duty: World at War." That mode is "Zombies." In it, players must work together to fend off wave after wave of increasingly more powerful and numerous zombies. While it is impossible to beat "Zombies" mode, since it goes on forever until all players have fallen, understanding how to manipulate situations for your benefit is key to reaching the higher levels.
  1. Knife for More Points

    • You earn more points when you kill an enemy with your knife than you do if you simply shoot them to death. Shoot them a couple of times to weaken them, then move in and slash for the kill. The more points you have, the easier it will be to acquire powerful weapons and additional ammunition down the road, when the waves of zombies become more hectic. Likewise, killing a zombie with a shot to the head will earn you more points than emptying a clip into his chest.

    Maintain Barricades

    • Throughout each room, there are doors and windows that you can barricade to hold off the zombie scourge for a little while longer. Each time you fortify or repair an entrance's barricade, you gain a number of points to use on weapons and ammunition. However, to repair a barricade, you must stand still and face the entrance, leaving your backside open to attack. Be quick and remain alert. If you are playing with a friend, he can protect you while you finish the repairs.

    Control the Waves

    • In later levels, you may find that waves come one after the other, leaving you little to no time to prepare, repair barricades or manage your inventory. You can control when each wave appears, however. Use an explosive weapon, such as the grenade, on one of the last zombies in the wave. If you are lucky, you will only remove the zombie's legs and turn him into a crawler. Crawlers move slowly and pose little danger, giving you time to finish the rest of the wave and prepare for the next. When you are ready, kill the crawler to trigger the next wave.

    Move Often

    • While it is best to keep to a small area of play early into the game so that you can more easily control zombies and build your arsenal, you will find later levels hectic, fast-paced and crowded. Hold off in a single area for as long as possible before paying to unlock the next area. This way, you do not have the largest possible area to search for a small number of zombies. By the time the zombies have become more powerful and numerous, you will need the entire map to maneuver. Never allow yourself to get pinned into a corner. Always have an exit.

    Communicate

    • If you are playing with others, you must communicate to survive pass the later waves. If you are moving to another room, let your teammates know so that they can follow you and provide cover so that if you are incapacitated, your teammates will know where to find you. If you feel it's time to run or it's time to hold a room for awhile, inform the rest of your team. Stick together and watch each other's backs to survive this zombie apocalypse.
