Upgrade to a wand with higher damage per second whenever possible. As of patch 4.2, 379 unique wands are available in the game ̵1; an average of four to five wands per level. Wands of uncommon quality are available as quest rewards and can be purchased at the auction house, but dungeon runs are the most reliable way to obtain rare and epic-quality wands.
Choose wands for their damage per second output regardless of stat bonuses. The stats on a wand may increase the damage caused by the character when attacking with spells, but they will not affect the damage output of the wand itself.
Optimize wand damage by obtaining a few wands, each of a different magic type ̵1; fire, frost, arcane, nature, shadow or holy ̵1; and keeping them in the character's bag. Some enemies are resistant to one or more types of magic; before engaging in battle, equip the wand that shoots with the magic to which the enemy is least resistant.
Target the closest enemy by clicking "Tab" instead of using the mouse. Each second spent locating and clicking on a target with the mouse is time that could be put to better use inflicting wand damage.
Assign the wand Shoot command to a hot key instead of clicking the "Shoot" button. Create the hot key by clicking the "Menu" icon, choosing "Key Bindings" and assigning whatever key is most convenient to the Shoot command. This will greatly reduce downtime and increase the total wand damage done each fight.
Stand still when shooting with a wand. Any movement will cause the character to stop attacking with the wand and the optimal amount of wand damage can only be inflicted by an uninterrupted stream of attacks.
