How to Set Realmlist for Retail Wow

Blizzard Entertainment's "World of Warcraft," also known as "WoW," stores many of its configuration settings within a number of special text files, located within certain subfolders. Among these settings is the "realmlist" setting, used to tell the application which server to contact upon login. Should you change this setting from the one provided with the retail version of the game, you will no longer be able to log into the standard server. Fortunately, you can remedy this issue by manually changing the setting back to its original defaults.

Instructions

    • 1

Browse the contents of your computer's "My Programs," "Games" or "Applications" folder. Locate the folder labeled "World of Warcraft." Open the folder and locate the folder labeled "WTF." Open the "WTF" folder and locate the file labeled "Config.wtf." Save a backup copy of this file to another location on your computer.

    • 2

Launch a text editor application, such as "Notepad," "WordPad" or "TextEdit." Select the "Open" option from the "File" menu. Navigate through your computer's file system to the location of the original "Config.wtf" file. Select the "Config.wtf" file and open it.

    • 3

Scroll down to the bottom of the "Config.wtf" file. Add a new line to the end of the file and input "SET realmlist," without the punctuation and quotation marks. Input "us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com" at the end of the line; be sure to enclose the server name in quotation marks. Save the file and exit the text editor.

    • 4

Return to the "World of Warcraft" folder and open the "Data" subfolder. Open the "enUS" folder contained within and locate the file labeled "realmlist.wtf." Save a backup copy of this file to another location on your computer.

Open the "realmlist.wtf" file in your text editor. Browse the contents of the file and locate the line that begins with "set realmlist," without the punctuation and quotation marks. Change the server address found on this line to "us.logon.worldofwarcraft.com;" without the punctuation and quotation marks. Save the file and exit the text editor.
