Basic Skirts
You can buy skirts from stores. You may get a skirt as a reward for completing lower-level Treasure Trails -- puzzles and challenges that occur in the game. Blue skirts with gold-colored or black trim are one example. Wizards that wear all black sometimes drop black skirts; wizards that wear blue may drop blue skirts. Neither have any magical powers. Like other clothing you can change the color of skirts with dye. Skirts are worn by players of both genders during "riots," with pink skirts being worn by those protesting changes in the game and blue skirts worn by staff or supporters.
Elegant Outfits
Elegant outfits, sometimes call ele' outfits, are available in red, purple, blue, green and white. They include a skirt and a blouse. Elegant skirts and blouses are more expensive than basic ones. You can buy them or get them as rewards from higher-level Treasure Trails.
Plateskirts
Plateskirts are a form of armor that you can wear to protect your character's legs. You can find plateskirts in all the usual "RuneScape" materials -- bronze, iron, steel, mithril, rune, Dragon and Adamant. You can find plateskirts in different shades, including the colors of various "RuneScape" gods. There are also plateskirts that you can get as monster drops. Some plateskirts are only available in the dungeons of Daemonheim.
Loyalty Reward Outfits
Some outfits are only available for purchase with loyalty points. Loyalty points are given as rewards for players who maintain a paid membership. The longer the membership, the more points you get. When you have enough, you can buy one of these special outfits from a non-player character called "Xuan." The outfits are Dervish, Eastern, Saxon and Samba. They are purely decorative, providing no bonuses or defense, except for the Dervish outfit which protects you from desert damage.
Special Skirts
Some skirts confer special abilities. These include the Penance skirt, which you can receive as a reward for the Barbarian Assault Activity. When worn with the rest of the Penance items, this skirt acts like a plateskirt and confers bonuses to defense. Another example would be the white desert robe skirt, which reduces your character's need for water in the desert.
Activity Rewards
You may get female attire as a reward for participating successfully in quests or activities. Examples are the Princess outfit -- a blouse and skirt -- which you can get as a reward for completing the Frogs random event challenge; and the female version of the acrobat costume -- hood, shirt, pants and shoes -- which you can get as a reward for completing the Circus Activity.
Fancy Dress
Fancy dress clothes come in male and female versions. One example of girls' fancy dress is the female Santa outfit released for the holidays.
