FAQ for Rune Mysteries

"Runescape" is a multiplayer online game in a fantasy setting. You can fight monsters, cast spells, go on quests and learn skills. Rune Mysteries is one of the most important quests in the game, since it grants you access to the useful and lucrative Rune essence mines and lets you start learning the Runecrafting skill.
  1. Is This Members Only Quest?

    • "RuneScape" includes some quests that are for pay-to-play members only, and some quests that anyone can undertake. Rune Mysteries is one of the free-to-play quests, so you don't need a membership to undertake it. A membership will allow you to use enchanted jewelry to teleport, however, which can make the quest faster.

    What Do I Need?

    • Higher-level quests often have requirements you must meet before you can begin -- an item, a skill level or a previous quest that must be completed. "Rune Mysteries" is a Novice level quest and requirements are minimal. You can begin the quest at any time, at any level and with any equipment. It is useful to have some Teleport to Varrock spells or other teleportation methods, as you will need to travel back and forth repeatedly between locations.

    How Long is Quest?

    • Rune Mysteries is a short quest that takes between five and 15 minutes to complete. The exact amount of time will depend on whether you have teleports.

    What is Objective of Quest?

    • At the start of Rune Mysteries, the secret of making runes has been lost for centuries. Wizards in the Wizards Tower have been researching however, and have found a way to make runes again. Your objective is to help Sedridor, the head wizard, with his research. If you're successful, Sedridor will teach you to craft runes as well.

    How Do I Begin Quest?

    • To trigger the Rune Mysteries quest, you first need to travel to Lumbridge. Lumbridge is the first town you arrived at when you began playing "RuneScape," so it should not be hard for you to find. Go to the castle and talk to Duke Horacio. You can find the Duke in his chamber in Lumbridge Castle; he is on the first floor, bearing in mind that "RuneScape" uses the British floor-numbering system.

What Other Locations Feature in Quest?

    • At the beginning of the quest, the Duke will give you an item to take to the Wizard's Tower. This is located on a small island south of Draynor Village; Draynor Village itself is west of Lumbridge. You will also need to travel to Aubury's Rune Shop, located in the town of Varrock. Varrock is to the north of Lumbridge; Aubury's Rune Shop is in the southeast quarter of Varrock.

What Are Rewards for Completing Rune Mysteries?

    • Runes are made using Rune essences that come from the Rune essence mines. Once you complete Rune Mysteries you will have access to these mines and can mine for Rune essences yourself. You will unlock the Runecrafting skill, which lets you begin learning how to craft runes for use in magic or with the game's rune altars. You will receive the Air Talisman, a magical item. You will earn one Quest Point; collecting Quest Points gives you in-game rewards.
