Jewel Crafting Help in World of Warcraft

Jewelcrafting is one of several crafting professions available to characters in the "World of Warcraft" online game. Jewelcrafters can create a variety of rings, necklaces and trinkets as well as some helms and fist weapons, although the bulk of the profession consists of crafting gems players may insert into sockets on their gear.
  1. Locating a Trainer

    • Jewelcrafting trainers are available in every capital city for both Alliance and Horde factions, as well as in the neutral cities of Shattrath and Dalaran. Like all profession trainers, jewelcrafting trainers are usually located in each city's crafting area. If you can't locate a trainer, speak with a guard, select "Profession Trainer" from the list of options and click "Jewelcrafting." Doing so will add a marker indicating the trainer's location on both your map and your mini-map.

If you have just started your character, there is no need to travel to a capital city to find a jewelcrafting trainer. Profession trainers, special nonplaying characters who can teach you any profession in the game, are available in the starting zone for each race. Click the "Tracking" icon on your mini-map and select "Profession Trainers" from the menu. Doing so will cause an icon to appear on your mini-map, showing the location of nearby profession trainers.

    Increasing Your Skill

    • To increase your skill in jewelcrafting, you need to craft items using the profession. Press "K" to bring up the profession panel, and then click the jewelcrafting icon to open the jewelcrafting window. Orange-colored recipes always grant you one or more skill points, while yellow-colored recipes do so frequently, but not always. Green-colored recipes grant you a skill point only very rarely, and you should avoid crafting them whenever possible in order not to waste materials. Visit a trainer regularly to learn new patterns and unlock higher ranks of the profession.

    Prospecting

    • Prospecting, a skill associated with jewelcrafting, allows you to gather gems from different types of ore, destroying the ore in the process. Prospecting requires five ore. If you have a higher number of ore, five ore will be consumed with each prospect, whereas if you have a lower number of ore, you will be unable to prospect. Prospecting only works on ore; you will be unable to prospect anything else, including metal bars and stone.

    Complementary Profession

    • All materials required for the jewelcrafting profession, such as ore, metal bars, gems and stone, can be gathered from mineral veins using the mining profession. Because of this, mining is an excellent complementary profession for jewelcrafting, allowing you to obtain the materials you need to increase your jewelcrafting skill without having to purchase them from the auction house.

    Profession Perks

    • At low levels, you can create stone statues that heal you temporarily, as well as trinkets that increase your character's stats and may have additional benefits, such as increasing your movement speed or reducing all damage you take for a short while. At a higher level, you can create exclusive gems to attach to your gear via sockets. These gems are more powerful than normal gems and grant a higher bonus to your character's stats. All these rewards are unique to the jewelcrafting profession and become bound to your character as soon as you create them.
