Creating Your Channel
To create a new chat channel, simply type "/join ChannelName" in your chat edit box, replacing "ChannelName" with the name you want the channel to have. Channel names are not case-sensitive and may contain both letters and numbers, but may not contain any punctuation, including spaces, and must begin with a letter. The first person to join a previously unused chat channel creates it and is automatically set as the owner. When choosing a name for a private channel, avoid overly obvious names. For example, if your guild is called "Ad Astra," a channel name of "AdAstraHealers" will be easy to guess even for outsiders to the guild.
Setting the Password
To set or change a password for a private channel, the channel owner or a channel moderator must type "/pass ChannelName DesiredPassword," replacing "ChannelName" with the name of the channel and "DesiredPassword" with the password you want to use. Passwords are not case-sensitive and may contain a mix of letters, numbers and punctuation. Players who attempt to join the channel are prompted to enter a password; if they enter the wrong one, the prompting box simply reappears. When choosing a password, avoid ones that may be easily guessed. For example, if you are creating a private chat channel for a guild, setting the password to the guild name may be inadvisable.
Other Useful Commands
To remove an undesirable player from a channel, type "/ckick ChannelName PlayerName" while you are a channel owner or moderator. A player kicked in such a manner will still be able to rejoin the channel. To ban a player permanently, type "/ban ChannelName PlayerName." To remove a ban, type "/unban ChannelName PlayerName." To prevent a player from speaking in the channel but allow him to remain in it, type "/mute ChannelName PlayerName." To reverse this action and allow the player to speak again, type "/unmute ChannelName PlayerName." To invite a player to a chat channel, type "/cinvite ChannelName PlayerName." Inviting a player in this way will allow him to join a password-protected channel without knowing the password. You can see a full list of chat commands by typing "/chat."
Considerations
Although setting a password can be an effective measure to keep undesirable people out of a chat channel in the short term, all chat channel settings are completely reset whenever the last person leaves the channel. As a result, the channel password and all other settings will be lost every day, unless there are people online in the channel at all times. A more effective way of preventing random chatter or trolling from cluttering up your channel is simply to choose an obscure and hard-to-guess channel name.
