Where Does the Flurry Axe Drop in World of Warcraft?

The Flurry Axe is one of a handful of low-level epic items available in the "World of Warcraft" online game. Although some of these epic items have specific drop locations, this axe is not one of them. Therefore, obtaining it may be problematic, unless you have extreme good luck or can manage to purchase it from the auction house.
  1. About the Flurry Axe

    • The Flurry Axe is an epic one-handed axe that can be equipped at level 42 or above. This axe can deal between 37 and 69 damage with each attack and has an attack speed of 1.50, resulting in an average damage per second of 35.3. Additionally, this axe has a chance to grant you an extra attack every time you hit an enemy with it. This axe has a distinctive model, with three points to each blade and an additional, smaller blade on the head of the axe. This model is shared with two other weapons, the Axe of the Deep Woods and Serathil, although the latter two weapons are respectively green and blue in color, while the Flurry Axe is red.

    Obtaining a Flurry Axe

    • The Flurry Axe is a world drop item, and has an extremely low chance to drop from any enemy between level 43 and level 50. There is no specific location or enemy that has a higher chance than others of dropping this item. You may also be able to purchase a Flurry Axe from a player who has found one but has no use for it, either through the auction house or through face-to-face trading.

    Considerations

    • Although it is certainly possible for you to attempt to find this item by killing a large amount of enemies of the appropriate level, the chance of actually obtaining one is extremely low. Additionally, if you are doing the killing with the same low-level character you intend to equip the axe on, you may end up quickly out-leveling the axe, at which point, even if you manage to obtain one, it will be mostly useless to you. Purchasing a Flurry Axe from another player can be a faster way of obtaining it, assuming you can find one for sale. However, you should be prepared to pay several hundred or even several thousand gold for it, due to its rarity.

    Weapon Alternatives

    • If you can't find a Flurry Axe, several weapons exist that are similar to it but easier to obtain. For example, if your character can wield swords and you have access to a higher-level character that can quickly gather honor points, you can purchase the Battleworn Thrash Blade, an heirloom sword that also has a chance to grant you an extra attack when you hit an enemy. Although this sword deals less damage than a Flurry Axe at level 42, the damage it deals increases as your character levels and will be higher than the Flurry Axe's once your character hits level 50.

Ironfoe, a unique epic mace that can be equipped at level 51, has a 4 percent chance to drop from Emperor Dagran Thaurissian, the last boss of the Blackrock Depths dungeon, and has a chance to grant you two extra attacks when you hit an enemy. Because of its specific drop location and higher chance to drop, Ironfoe may be easier to obtain, especially if you have the help of a higher-level character.

Weapons that deal the same amount of damage per second as a Flurry Axe can be obtained from several dungeons and can be equipped at level 48 or above. For example, Lord Aurius Rivendare, the final boss of the scourge side of the Stratholme dungeon, can drop Bonescraper, a dagger, and Skullforge Reaver, a sword, while Maleki the Pallid, another boss in Stratholme, can drop the Boneslicing Hatchet, an axe. Although these weapons do not have a chance to grant you an extra attack, they increase your character's stats or offer other useful effects.
