What Are Fountain Coins for in World of Warcraft?

Fountain coins are special items in the "World of Warcraft" game that players may obtain only by fishing in the Dalaran fountain. Some of these coins bear the name of characters important to "World of Warcraft" lore, such as Archimonde, Jaina Proudmoore and Aegwynn, while others are related to minor or even nameless characters. Collecting a full set of each type of coin grants your character an achievement.
  1. Copper and Silver Coins

    • Copper and silver coins are both gray items in that they serve no other purpose than to form two entire sets for collecting to obtain the related achievement: "A Penny for Your Thoughts" and "Silver in the City," respectively. A total of 22 individual copper coins and 15 individual silver coins make up these sets. The coins are not unique, so you are likely to fish up several duplicates while trying to get the ones you are missing.

    Gold Coins

    • Gold coins, unlike copper and silver coins, are white, or common, items, and they bind to your character once you acquire them. Right-clicking a gold coin while standing near the Dalaran fountain throws the coin back into the fountain, granting you a two-minute buff: an increase in your chances of fishing up coins from the fountain. Like copper and silver coins, gold coins are not unique, and you are likely to acquire duplicates. The achievement to collect all gold coins is called "There's Gold in That There Fountain."

    The Coin Master

    • Completing all three of the coin-related achievements will automatically unlock a fourth achievement, "The Coin Master." Obtaining this achievement rewards your character with the Titanium Seal of Dalaran, a special item that replicates the act of flipping a coin within the game. When you use this item, an animation of your character tossing a coin up in the air plays, accompanied by the emote message "Character casually flips his Titanium Seal of Dalaran." Once the animation finishes and the coin lands back in your character's hands, another emote is displayed, showing whether the result of the coin toss is heads or tails. The achievement "The Coin Master" is also required to unlock the "Accomplished Angler" achievement.

    Considerations

    • Completing all coin-related achievements can be quite time consuming and will most likely require a healthy amount of patience. If you find yourself becoming frustrated with attempting these achievements, consider interrupting your fishing every now and then to do other activities, whether in-game or out of the game. Alternatively, consider fishing in the Dalaran fountain during waiting periods, such as when you are queuing for a dungeon or battlegrounds or waiting for a raid group to fill.
