How to Break Into Arcatraz on World of Warcraft

Blizzard Entertainment's "World of Warcraft" is peppered with quests, locations and items that contain references to various elements of popular culture. Among these is the "How to Break Into the Arcatraz" quest, offered by A'dal in Shattrath City. In this quest, players must gather the pieces to a special key that will provide access to the Arcatraz, a prison island similar to San Francisco's Alcatraz Island, save for the fact that it is surrounded by open air instead of water.

  Travel to the zone of Netherstorm, located in the northernmost part of the Outlands. Use your flying mount to reach Tempest Keep, which is situated near the eastern border of the zone. Fly to the small, floating island located to the northwest of Tempest Keep. Enter the portal located on the island; this will send you to the Botanica.

  Proceed along the path leading through the Botanica, defeating or evading the enemies that you encounter along the way. Continue until you reach the nonplayer character named Warp Splinter, located at the very end of the instance. Defeat Warp Splinter and pick up the "Top Shard of the Arcatraz Key" item from his body. Exit the Botanica by traveling back the way you came.

  Fly to the small, floating island located to the southeast of Tempest Keep. Enter the portal located on the island; this will send you to the Mechanar. Defeat the two enemies named Gatekeeper Gyro-kill and Gatekeeper Iron-hand, located in the east and west wings of the first floor. Proceed up the elevator located in the northwest corner of the first floor.

  Proceed along the path leading through the second floor, defeating or evading the enemies that you encounter along the way. Continue until you reach the NPC named Pathaleon the Calculator, located at the very end of the instance. Defeat Pathaleon and pick up the "Bottom Shard of the Arcatraz Key" item from his body. Exit the Mechanar by traveling back the way you came.

  Travel south to the zone of Terrokar Forest, located near the center of the Outlands. Head to Shattrath City, which is situated in the northwest corner of the zone. Speak to the NPC named A'dal, found in the center of the city. Select the option to complete the "How to Break Into the Arcatraz" quest, which will reward you with the "Key to the Arcatraz" item.

  Return to the Tempest Keep region of Netherstorm. Fly to the island located to the northeast of Tempest Keep. Right-click the gate blocking access to the portal; the gate will open, allowing you access to the Arcatraz.
