How to Back Up World of Warcraft

Whether you are formatting your hard disk and completely reinstalling your operating system or simply want to ensure that your add-ons and settings aren't lost due to a computer crash, backing up "World of Warcraft" files can save you the time and effort you would spend reinstalling the game from scratch.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the "World of Warcraft" folder on your computer. By default, the game is installed to "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft."

    • 2

Decide whether you want to back up the entire game or just your settings. Backing up the entire game may require up to 30GB of space on your chosen backup media, while backing up only your settings requires less than 500MB of space.

    • 3

Copy the game files to your chosen backup media. If you are backing up the entire game, copy the whole "World of Warcraft" folder; to back up only your settings, copy the "Interface" and "WTF" folders found within the "World of Warcraft" folder. If you have taken any screenshots you want to keep, back up the "Screenshots" folder as well.
