How to Play Monster Mah Jong

Mah Jong is a traditional Chinese game whose name means "sparrows." Traditionally, four players take turns removing tiles from a pile in front of them. The players receive scores based on the tiles they remove from the pile to create "Pungs" and "Kongs" -- or scoreable hands. Each player searches for a "Mah Jong," or winning hand. "Monster Mah Jong" is a simplified version of the game, played online by a single player.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on the "Monster Mah Jong" link to open the game page. At the main menu, click on either "Story Mode" or "Quick Game" to be redirected to a game screen. "Story Mode" initiates the full game mode where players move around a map, participating in increasingly difficult Mah Jong challenges. For a shorter game, select "Quick Game." This takes you directly to a one-off game of Mah Jong.

    • 2

Study the bricks that fly across the screen. They organize themselves in a pattern across the page, but the pattern is 3-D so bricks at the bottom of the pile are obscured from view by the ones that are deployed last. Formulate a mental image of the tiles and their locations in the lower layers.

    • 3

Click on a tile that has one of its longest edges exposed. If a tile is joined to another to the left or right of it, at the same level, you can select it. If it overlooks another tile, or is at the edge of a pack of tiles, you can also select it. Choose a tile and look for another clickable tile that matches it. Click on the matching tile to make both tiles disappear.

    • 4

Continue searching for pairs of clickable tiles. Click on matching tiles until all tiles are gone. The round is complete when the tiles are removed. Maximize your score by planning which tiles you are going to remove and removing them in quick combo moves. This gives your score a multiplier, which increases each time you add a move to the combo.

    • 5

Click on the "Menu" icon if you get stuck. This will give you the option of automatically removing a pair of tiles in exchange for points. Use this option sparingly because it will result in a low score. If you run out of available moves, the game ends automatically.
