How to Make a 200-Million Shield on Borderlands

"Borderlands" is a first-person shooter available on multiple consoles and the personal computer. You play as one of four characters and must battle various enemies. To aid you in your quest, you have access to weapons and armor, including a shield. The shield protects you from enemy attacks. You start with a default shield and can buy upgrades to improve the shield's defense statistics. "Borderlands" has a limited number of shields, each of which has a different set of attributes. None of the regular shields has 200 million hit-points' worth of damage resistance; in order to get a shield that strong, you must use a modification. Modify the shield by boosting its traits and adding the "Scorpio" upgrade. The combination gives the shield 200 million hit-points of defense. Modified shields can only be used in the PC version of "Borderlands."

  Download and install WillowTree and Modio (see Resources), both of which are free programs needed to modify "Borderlands."

  Double-click Modio to open it. Using the provided directory, click the folder in which your "Borderlands" saved game files are stored. Right-click the saved game file you want to modify. Click "Extract." Click "Desktop" as the extraction destination and click "OK." Close Modio.

  Double-click WillowTree to open it. Click "File." Click "Open." Click the saved game file you extracted to your desktop. Click "OK" to open the file.

  Click "New." Click the new object that appears on the left side of the window. Click "Shield" on the right side of the screen.

  Edit the shield specifications so it reads as follows:

  Click "Save Changes." Close WillowTree.

  Double-click Modio to open it once more. Click-and-drag the modified "Borderlands" game file and drop it into Modio. The next time you play "Borderlands," you will have a shield that has 200 million hit-points.
