Why Is My Autofighter Bot Not Working?

Runescape is one of the top-rated free online massively multi-player online role-playing games (MMO) for good reasons. It has a diversity of quests and activities to keep the novice intrigued and the veteran engaged. As with most MMO's, however, there is a considerable amount of content that is only available to characters who have achieved a high enough level. Many players use "bots" to aid them in that task, but such software is far from flawless.

What is Autofighter Bot?
- At some point in the game, you have to kill hundreds or thousands of enemies for your Runescape character to acquire new levels. Autofighter bot is a commercial software application that is like an automatic robot that takes over the game, freeing up your mouse for other things. This allows you to avoid the grueling "grind" of leveling up a character. It additionally allows you to "farm" foes (or the items they drop), limiting your fight to a specific type. Some players misuse the term "autofighter bot" to refer to any combat script or software.
Setup Issues and Bugs
- Autofighter bot, like any other software package, only functions well if it is properly installed and correctly configured. Some people find that re-installing the package resolves their issues. If this is not the case, make sure your bot's settings are accurate. If all else fails, update the software. If none of these work, look over the bug list to ensure the issue you are having isn't already in the process of being resolved. If not, leave a bug report on the product website.
Runscape Updates
- Like any MMO, Runescape constantly updates their software to accommodate bug fixes, to include security patches and to add new content. These updates will often cause bot software to fail to function. If you see the message "Script not found" while trying to use autofighter bot, you will likely need to update it to match the Runescape patch. If the game has recently updated, you may need to wait a day or two for the developers to create a corresponding fix for your autofighter bot software.

- The makers of Runescape have a strict policy that limits the use of bot software. They can and will ban those they discover utilizing such software on their servers for different periods of time, depending on the frequency and duration of such an offense. These bans generally last two weeks. You might think such policies would make the use of bot software a risk that few would take. Despite the policies, however, many communities support "botting" and it remains common on most servers. That said, realize that using any bot software violates your terms of use and could potentially end up losing you more than you gain.
