Cheats for Neverwinter Nights 2

The "Neverwinter Nights" games were designed as platforms for user-developed modules. For that reason, they come with powerful cheat console commands enabling players to change character attributes, items, levels and locations. These developer tools can be used to enhance your player experience in the regular modules as well. For example, if you are testing out dual-class builds, rather than grinding out four different characters -- each with slightly different builds and feats -- you might want to use cheat console commands to see how different builds, attributes, and feats affect damage output and survivability in a specific fight.
  1. Debug Mode

    • To use cheat commands, you need to be in Debug mode. You enter Debug mode by typing a tilde, the character "~", usually found just above the [Tab] key on your keyboard. You will see a prompt in the form of a "greater than" or ">" character on the upper left of your keyboard. Type "DebugMode 1" (case sensitive) to access the most powerful console commands. If "~" does not bring up the console prompt, you will need to edit the file nwn.ini in your game folder. Use a word processor to add the line "debug mode=1" anywhere in the file and save as a text file.

    Giving Yourself Gold and Gear

    • To give a character gold or items, right-click on the character portrait to select the character, and then enter the appropriate case-sensitive command:

Give gold: dm_givegold # [where # is amount of gold]

Give item: giveitem [item tag] # [where # is number of copies, and item tag is the name found in the item tag database]

Full lists of item tags can be found at Ign.com or Gamefaqs.com.

    Character Attributes

    • You can change character attributes several ways. If you want to set all attributes to 20, input "irolltwenties" at the console prompt. You can also set each attribute individually using SetSTR, SetDEX, SetINT, etc. The format for these commands is:

SetSTR [#] [where # is the desired numeric value of the attribute; substitute desired attribute for STR as needed]

There are two commands for adjusting character level:

      dm_givelevel [#]

      GetLevel [#]

    Other Console Commands

    • Other console commands can change feats, saves, base attack, and alignment for yourself or other characters in your party. It's possible to adjust loyalty levels of party members too. Swapping party members in and out using console commands may cause errors. You can also spawn a dungeon master NPC who will perform a variety of useful tasks for you.
