Icons
To complete "Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Persian Carpet," you must know what the three small icons in the left-hand corner of the screen are for. The first icon, a graphic of Sherlock Holmes, allows you to access your lodge at 221b Baker Street where you can perform analysis on any mysterious substances and practice mini-games.The second icon is your map. You will become familiar with this icon rather quickly, as it is used to access the various locations in the game. The third icon is a graphic of a hat, which allows you to access Scotland Yard, where you can take a look at your top suspects, testimonies and other criminal records. The first time you view a Crime Report, you must highlight certain words to continue, including the words "White Weapon," "Carpet" and "Blood."
Failing a Level
Always keep in mind the fact that "Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Persian Carpet" is a timed game, so you don't want to spend too much time in one particular area. Furthermore, there are no save points during missions, which means you are forced to restart the entire mission and collect every object again if you run out of time and fail an area.
Filling Up Beakers
You must fill glass beakers with various substances during the course of "Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Persian Carpet." Always avoid filling the beaker to its capacity as this may cause you to accidentally hit the "Menu" button, cancelling out your previous action and forcing you to start over.
In-Game Hints
If you are having difficulty finding a particular item, you can always use one of your hints. Use these hints wisely, however, as you are only given three hints per level. There is absolutely no way to gain any additional hints, so once you've used all three, you're on your own.
