How to Change the Race in a Saved Game in NWN2

You may have had the misfortune of playing through a large chunk of Neverwinter Nights 2 before realizing that your character would be better suited as a different race. For instance, as a warrior you may wish that you had chosen to play as a dwarf rather than a human, thus allowing you to benefit from a dwarf's increased toughness. Because there are no cheats built into Neverwinter Nights 2 that allow you to change your race, you will have to acquire a save game editor that will allow you to do so.

Instructions

  Check to ensure that you have Java Runtime Environment 1.6 or greater. You can do so by opening a command prompt (press Windows Key + R, then type \"cmd\" or \"command\"). At the command prompt, type ̶0;java -version̶1; and then press the ̶0;Enter̶1; key. If you do not have Java 1.6, you can follow the link in the Resources section to acquire it.

  Locate and download the NWN2 Editor. A link is provided in the References section.

  Extract the files from the ̶0;NWN2Editor-1.zip̶1; archive to a directory of your choice and open that directory.

  Right-click on the program shortcut and alter the ̶0;Start in̶1; line to match the directory you placed the files in, then double-click on the shortcut.

  Navigate to your Neverwinter Nights 2 save directory, which is probably located in C:\\Documents and Settings\\(your user name)\\My Documents\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\saves, and open the save folder for the character whose race you want to change.

  Locate the file in your character's save folder named ̶0;playerlist.ifo̶1; and open that file using the NWN2 Editor. Create a backup copy of ̶0;playerlist.ifo̶1; before making any changes.

  Find the field for \"race\" in the editor and change it to match whichever race you want for your character.

  Save your changes and exit NWN2 Editor.
