Balance the Scales
One of the trickiest logic puzzles in the game asks you to balance a set of scales so that each side holds the same weight. To do this, you drag objects from the screen until everything balances out, using logic. Every object on the screen must be used.
The third scale puzzle can be frustrating until you realize that the statues in the background can also be added to the scale (you have to hover over them with the cursor placed precisely to move them). Once you know you can add the statues, the puzzle is not difficult. Begin with the heaviest objects first (in this case, the statues).
Random Objects
Certain sections of "Detective Stories: Hollywood" are timed. This can be extremely difficult, since you will be asked to find up to 30 objects in 60 seconds. Even expert gamers may find themselves with three of four objects still left to find when time expires. There are no technical cheats for these sections, but the player should keep in mind that the hidden objects are placed randomly, so that each time you play the game, you will have a different set. Some variations are easier than others, so if you keep re-trying these sections you will eventually end up with a "doable" board.
The Mysterious Toothbrush
In the bedroom stage, you are asked to find a toothbrush, a light bulb and a key. The objects have been broken into four pieces each and hidden in the room. Finding the toothbrush is easy, as is finding three-quarters of the light bulb and three-quarters of the key. However, if you keep searching the room for the two missing pieces, you are going to get frustrated. You have to brush the teeth on the dresser with the toothbrush to reveal the final light bulb piece. Put the light bulb together, but don't put it on the lamp. It goes in the opening on the mirror in the vanity. Once you place the light bulb, the final piece of the key will pop out. Use the key to open the locked drawer on the dresser to clear the stage.
