Beyond the Sword Afterworld Cheats

"Afterworld" is a scenario included in "Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword" that effectively changes the original game, which focuses on diplomacy, empire-building and research, into an isometric squad-based combat game reminiscent of "X-COM UFO Defense." If you happen to be a cheater, this can be a confusing situation, because a number of the cheat codes you may have relied on have no bearing whatsoever in "Afterworld." However, a selection of cheats from "Civilization IV" are still applicable to Afterworld. (To activate cheats, change the line "CheatCode = 0" to "CheatCode = chipotle" in the file civ4config. Press "~" during game play and enter the cheat code.)
  1. Terrain Cheats

    • Six cheat codes alter the terrain and thus make getting around easier, or at least more interesting. "Graphics.toggleWater", for instance, will turn water on and off, which can make it substantially easier to move wherever you want. Meanwhile, four cheats, including "Map.generateGoodies", "Map.generateBonuses", "Map.generateFeatures" and "Map.generateRivers", will replot all goodies, bonuses, features and rivers, respectively, which you may want to do if you are playing this scenario for the second time and would like to add some variety. Finally, "Map.eraseGameElements" will remove all rivers, features, bonuses and goodies entirely, leaving nothing in the world but you and your foes.

    Unit Attribute Cheats

    • While city-related cheats are irrelevant in the "Afterworld" scenario, all cheats related to individual units are especially relevant. These unit-related cheats can be invoked with simple keystrokes but must first be activated with the cheat code "Game.toggleDebugMode". Hold "Shift" and press the "]" key in order to increase the strength of a highlighted unit by 0.2 or "[" to decrease the strength of a highlighted unit. Either of these cheats can be used to increase or decrease the scenario's difficulty, depending on whether you use the cheats on yourself or your enemies. You may also hold "Ctrl" and press the "+" (plus) key to level up a highlighted unit. If you need money to purchase upgrades, holding "Ctrl" and pressing "4" will give you 1,000 gold.

    World Editor Cheats

    • The preceding cheats give you a limited or imprecise means of changing the scenario. If you want more precise control over what you are altering and to what extent you are altering it, begin by entering the cheat "Game.toggleDebugMode". Now hold "Ctrl" and "Shift" and click the left mouse button; this brings up a prompt that will allow you to insert a unit of your choosing into the scenario. For an even greater degree of control, hold "Ctrl" and press "W" to gain access to the World Editor. Now you can alter the terrain and even change the number and types of enemy units you will encounter.
