How to Minimize the Sims 2 Game

"The Sims 2" is a the sequel of "The Sims," a life simulator video game originally made for PC and Mac computers. Released in 2004, "The Sims 2" spawned several expansion packs that added new environments, gameplay and options to the original game. In all its incarnations, however, "The Sims 2" has always defaulted to being played full-screen with no automatic option to minimize the game in order to check for advice or do anything else without closing the game. There are two ways to easily change this.

Instructions

  1. During Gameplay

    • 1

Open the game file and begin playing.

    • 2

Press "alt" and "tab" at the same time. These immediately minimize the program and move to the desktop screen.

    • 3

Press "alt" and "tab" again to restore the game to full screen.

    Windowed Mode

    • 4

Right-click on the "Sims 2" icon on the desktop and select "Properties."

    • 5

Locate the field labeled "Target" and put the cursor at the end of the text entered in the field (it should end with ".exe").

    • 6

Add "-w" at the end of the text within the "Target" field.

    • 7

Click on "Apply" and "OK" the change. Open the game using the shortcut icon and it will immediately begin in Windowed mode, which can be minimized by clicking on the minimize button (the symbol looks like an underscore: _ ) at the top of the window.
