How to Play Different Characters Using HMT for Halo on the PC

"Halo: Combat Evolved" is a computer port of the classic first-person shooter (FPS) "Halo" in which a cyborg space marine must uncover the secrets of a mysterious ring planet and halt galactic annihilation. The computer comes with a bonus program, the Halo Mapping Tools (HMT), which allows players to alter nearly every aspect of the game and its mechanics, including altering character selection.

Instructions

    • 1

Run the Halo Mapping Tools program. It can be located in the Start menu or directory browser (the browsing window used to look through your drives, files and folders) within the "Halo" folder, which is itself a sub-folder of "Microsoft Games."

    • 2

Expand the "File" menu at the top of the program and select "Open..." to bring up another browser window. Navigate back to the "Halo" folder if it is not up already, open the folder called "maps," and select one of the map files from the list. Each file is named after the level it represents.

    • 3

Click the "+" icon next to the phrase "biped" on the list of changeable aspects of the game. Highlight one of the bipedal character model tags (they are fairly obviously named, for example, "Cyborg" for the Master Chief character), copy the tag that appears near the top of the window, and replace the field populated with the "Cyborg" tag with another tag that you want to control.

    • 4

Save the map and launch your game. Begin playing the map that you chose from the browser directory, where you will resemble a different character model such as an elite or marine.
