Monsters
While most monsters in "Monster Rancher 4" are created by inserting different discs requested by the game, players can also obtain secret monsters without doing so. To do this, players must go to the monster creation screen, and a built-in disc called Pandora will automatically appear and allow for the created of new monsters not available on the other game discs. The Pandora monsters will vary depending on a player's breeder level, which is affected by the player's gameplay statistics. As players increase their breeder level, they can attempt to make different monsters using the Pandora disc. Another monster named Kasumi is available only by going to the game's monster creation area and changing to the DOA2 Hardcore disc. Once the Hardcore game starts, players can choose Kasumi.
Modes
Two modes of play in "Monster Rancher 4" are not available right off and must be unlocked. To get both Phoenix mode and Adventure + mode, players must beat a character named Xevion to complete the game. After Xevion is defeated, players must wait until the new modes show up on the main menu, a process that sometimes takes weeks but represents the only way to get additional play modes.
Items
"Monster Rancher 4" players can gain the ability to buy new items in the shops of both Togle and Torble. To get new items from Togle, players must talk to a character named Gunwale while in Togle. Players who began the event with Yuri must find Yuri and wait for her stance to change. Once either Gunwale or Yuri has been contacted, players will be able to buy shrimp, salmon, fish and vitamins from Togle's shop. Players can unlock new items from Torble by heading to Torble and approaching a character named Chiho. Chiho will state a day that the new items can first be purchased. Once that day comes, players can buy pork, oil, emerald and rose perfume.
