Hidden Characters
You can unlock and play with several hidden characters in the game. You have to perform certain actions to enable these characters. Get more than 50 boosts in adventure mode as Team Cortex, and you will unlock Fake Crash. Get your hands on a blue gem to use Polar. To unlock Pura, perform 50 or more boosts as Team Bandicoot. You can attain Real Velo by getting two sceptors. A purple gem unlocks the character Zam. N. Trophy becomes available if you beat out the N. Trophy ghost racers in the time trial mode. Emperor Velo gets unlocked when the game is completed under Team Cortex. Zem is unlocked when you get the green gem.
Hidden Race Tracks
The game also contains hidden tracks that can be unlocked and used. The Slide Coliseum becomes playable when you collect all of the time relics in the game. To unlock the Hyper Spaceway track, finish all 16 tracks under adventure mode in first place. You must place first in the normal and boss races as well. Find and collect all purple tokens while playing the adventure mode to unlock the Terra Drome race track.
Track Shortcut Tricks
The game also has hints that can be used as shortcuts in the races. During the Deep Sea Driving race track, you will reach a point on the track where there are three boosts. On the third boost, jump to the right, and you will land on a platform. This is a shortcut to cut the corner. In the Hyper Spaceway track, you will warp and go into a mountainous environment. You will know that you are getting to this part when you pass the boosts with a fire section. Move on to the left side of the ledge after a few jumps. Right before the last jump, make a sharp right and you will come off a ramp that propels you to the next part of the track. For this to be successful, you must use jump boosts.
