God of War 2 Phoenix Chamber Tips

Released by Sony Computer Entertainment America on March 13, 2007, for the PlayStation 2, the action game "God of War II" continues Kratos' quest for revenge, this time against the Sisters of Fate in order to regain his abilities. The Phoenix Chamber area features several puzzles for players to figure out along with two boss battles.
  1. Spike Puzzle

    • With the spike puzzle, players must pull a switch to make the huge spikes temporarily go back into the floor. Pull the switch again to make them come back up, which can prove useful in quickly defeating enemies. Using the Amulet of the Fates to slow down time will allow Kratos enough time to collect items like the Hail of Boreas before the spikes return.

    Flame Wall Puzzle

    • The statue, which you can push, serves as protection from the wall of flames in the next puzzle. Difficulty comes in the form of harpies and legionnaire captains that require leaving the safety of the statue to defeat. In moving the statues, Kratos is able to safely access chests and doors.

    Pedestal Puzzle

    • Pulling a level will cause a wall to raise, which you climb to reveal a pair of chains that, when destroyed, will make some gates fall. This reveals a pedestal, which you can move into a position where it stops the wall and creates a gap between the platform and the ceiling. You then have access to a pair of cranks that Kratos must turn to advance.

    Boss Battle with Mysterious Warrior

    • While the Mysterious Warrior deals powerful damage, avoid his attacks by pressing the "L1" button to parry his attempts to hit, followed by pushing the "Square" button to counterattack.

    Boss Battle with Kraken

    • Using Rage of the Titans will free Kratos from Kraken's grasp, while hitting its left tentacle will loosen its grip on the pillar. Placing the dead soldier on a switch on the floor will open an air vent that Kratos can ride to attack the Kraken's head.
