How to Use a SNES Station on a PS2 Slim

SNES Station is a free Super Nintendo Entertainment System emulator for the PS2 and PS2 slim. This program allows owners of modified PS2 Slim systems to play SNES ROMS on their consoles. While SNES Station cannot emulate all SNES games perfectly, it does work with the majority of titles. The SNES ROMS and SNES Station run off a CD or DVD, and the save files for the ROMS are stored on the PS2 memory card. This software is handy for gamers that still have a large Super Nintendo Entertainment System collection but no console to play it on anymore.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure your PS2 Slim is capable of running from a burned disc. This can only be done if the PS2 has been "Chipped" to play backup and import games, which can be accomplished with a "Swap Magic" kit. Information on where to get this kit and how to install it is available on the Swapmagic3 website (see Resources).

Navigate to the Zophar website and download the SNES Station emulator (see Resources). Right click the downloaded file and select "Extract All" to unzip the contents of the archive. This extracts the files needed to run the software, as well as a text file with instructions.

Place your SNES ROMS in the same folder as the SNES Station program. Legally, you can only use ROMS of games you own. You can, however, download free public domain SNES ROMS from sites like TheOldComputer (see Resources).

Burn the SNES Station files and SNES ROMS to a CD or DVD. The easiest way to do this is to highlight all the files, right-click and choose "Send To." From the list of available devices, select the DVD or CD writer on your PC. Insert a blank disc, type a name for the disc and click "Burn."

Boot up your modified PS2 Slim with the disc you burned. Use your PS2 game pad to scroll through the list of available ROMS on the disk, and press the "X" button to start a game. Press the "L1" and "R1" trigger buttons simultaneously while inside the game to activate the SNES Station menu. Adjust your preferences or save your games from here.
