How to Make an 80GB PS3 Use PS2 Games

The Playstation 3, or PS3 as it is commonly abbreviated, is a gaming console developed by Sony Corp. Released in late 2006, the PS3 is the successor to the Playstation 2, or PS2, that was released in 2000. There are several different models of the PS3 but most of them, including the 80 GB model, is backwards compatible with PS2 games. Sony has a web page specifically designed to help you find out if your PS2 game is compatible with your PS3.

Instructions

  Visit the Sony Playstation 3 Backward Compatibility web page (see References) and select "80 GB Playstation 3 Model" as your platform.

  Type the title of the Playstation 2 game you want to use into the "Game Title" text box, and then click "Search." If the Playstation 2 game you typed in is compatible with your 80 GB Playstation 3, it will appear below the "Search" button.

  Insert your Playstation 2 game into the disc tray of your 80 GB Playstation 3. The game will now initialize onscreen and you can play it just as you would a regular Playstation 3 game.
