How to Level Up Fast in Final Fantasy 9

One of the challenges inherent in role-playing games, like "Final Fantasy IX," is that some areas have monsters who are considerably stronger than your party. Leveling up fast is the best way to solve that problem, but in certain areas "grinding," or killing monsters to level fast, is more optimal than others. Certain areas have easy-to-kill monsters with a high experience payout or other advantages. Grand dragons are challenging monsters that give a lot of experience, and a few tricks can help make defeating them easier.

Grinding Points

  Start your game. Equip the skill "Level Up" for all of your characters. This enables your characters to level up, and as they gain AP, they receive more experience.

  Head for the North Gate or Quan's dwelling. These are ideal places to train, because of their proximity to a healing spring. Find that healing spring before you head out.

  Leave the area and fight monsters until your health is low. Around 25 percent will be enough health to make it back to the spring, in case you're ambushed.

  Return to the spring and heal your party. Repeat this process until your party becomes too strong for the area. For Quan's Dwelling, level 13 to 14 may be too high, for North Gate, level 18 to 19.
Grand Dragons

  Bring Quina into battle against stroper, draco-zombie, whale zombie or lich monsters. Use the "Eat" command to learn "Lv5 Death" from these creatures. This attack can instantly kill monsters whose levels are a multiple of five.

  Purchase and equip coral rings for all of your characters. These absorb thunder attacks.

  Travel to Gizamaluke's Grotto and climb the rope ladder to the mountain plain. Explore the area until you're confronted by a grand dragon. If your party is less than level 30, your characters may not be strong enough to tackle the monster.

  Use "Lv5 Death" on the grand dragon, located under the "Blue Magic" menu. Because the monster is level 60, the spell will be effective. If the spell hits, it will kill the monster instantly. Your reward is over 35,000 experience points.
