PS2 Shooting Games

Video games in the shooting genre for Sony's PlayStation 2 console offer players a variety of game-play experiences by providing different points of view, an array of guns, and stories based in modern and historical times. While some PlayStation 2 shooting games challenge players to complete serious missions, others present their material more jokingly.
  1. Silent Hill 2

    • Konami released "Silent Hill 2" for PlayStation 2 and PC gamers in November 2002. The game was developed by Konami TYO and is rated acceptable for mature players only. Players take on the role of a widower who gets stuck in the middle of a zombie attack after getting a letter he believes is from his late wife. Players must use an array of weapons, such as a handgun and rifle, and hone their shooting skills to survive.

    Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence

    • Konami released the shooting and strategy game "Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence" exclusively for the PlayStation 2 console in March 2006. The game, created by Kojima Productions, is rated suitable only for mature gamers. Players compete as a government specialist named Snake who must stop a villain from using a weapon with nuclear capabilities. "Subsistence" also features a special game mode that lets players compete with or against each other online.

    Red Faction

    • THQ released the Volition Incorporated-developed title "Red Faction," a first-person shooter, for PlayStation 2, PC and Macintosh players in May 2001. The game, which is rated appropriate only for mature players, tells the story of a group of workers on the planet Mars who rebel against an oppressive corporation. Once the corporation begins to hunt them, players must use guns and master their shooting to stay alive and on the move.

"Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal"

    • Released by Sony Computer Entertainment exclusively for the PlayStation 2 in November 2004, the Insomniac Games shooter "Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal" is rated appropriate for players 13 and above. Gamers can compete with one another to see who can rack up the most kills. Though "Up Your Arsenal" is a shooting game, players are given comical weapons that shoot objects other than bullets.
