Saltwater Fishing Games for the PS2

Since its release in 2000, Sony's PlayStation 2 (PS2) video game console has played host to numerous fishing games. The vast majority of these games offer only freshwater fishing, focusing on tournament competitions and bass fishing. With enough searching, however, players can find a few titles that feature saltwater fishing experiences. These titles include both fantasy fishing and realistic simulations. Remember to check the Entertainment Software Ratings Board label before playing games with youngsters.
  1. Cocoto Fishing Master

    • Originally released in 2008 for the Nintendo Wii, Cocoto Fishing Master for the PS2 was produced by developer Neko entertainment and publisher Conspiracy. The fantasy fishing game puts players in the shoes of the mystical devil creature Cocoto, who must travel the planet to catch the five millennial fish and save the world from a magic whirlpool. As Cocoto assists the King of the Sea, gamers fish in five different fantasy saltwater environments, which include a total of 30 different imaginary fish species as well as enormous “boss” fish. Cocoto Fishing Master features customizable equipment, such as fishing rods, baits and hooks. Players may control the game with the optional PlayStation 2 Fishing Rod controller in place of the traditional controller. This game supports one to four players. The Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) rates Cocoto Fishing Master E for Everyone.

    Rapala Pro Fishing

    • In conjunction with fishing gear manufacturer Rapala, Activision and Sand Grain Studios developed the PS2 fishing game Rapala Pro Fishing. While this game focuses primarily on freshwater fishing–featuring species such as bass, pike, walleye, catfish and perch–it offers players the opportunity to fish salmon and trout–two species that dwell in saltwater. Released in 2004, Rapala Pro Fishing features one- or two-player action, 50,000 virtual acres of water, 20 tournaments, 12 maps spread across the globe and hundreds of fishing hotspots. Rapala Pro Fishing received an E for Everyone rating from the ESRB.

    Saltwater Sportfishing

    • Though designed and released for the original PlayStation console, Saltwater Sportfishing from Saltwater Sports is compatible with the PlayStation 2 system. According to the manufacturer, this game focuses on exotic ocean fishing over 12 locations, including South Africa, the Indian Ocean, Belize, the Alaskan coast, West Australia and the Hawaiian Pacific. Players angle for 24 saltwater game fish using 10 line weights and 20 different lures. Arcade, tournament and recreation modes offer three styles of ocean fishing. This one-player game is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB.
