Things You'll Need
Instructions
Inspect your PlayStation 2 games when removing them from the hard shell case. You do not want to insert a damaged disc into your console, because that could damage the lens that reads the disc. Hold the disc upside down underneath a lamp or direct light. With your thumb on the edge of the disc and your finger through the center hole of the disc, rotate your wrist to inspect the entire surface. Look for scratches, dust, fingerprints or other debris. If you see no signs of debris, the disc is safe to use.
Cut an old T-shirt into a 12-inch-by-12-inch square. You can use other materials, but T-shirts are soft enough to use, and if you have an old one lying around you do not have to buy additional supplies.
Moisten the T-shirt rag under running water. Wring additional water from the rag. You want it damp, not soaked.
Use the moistened rag to clean your disc. Start at the center of the disc and gently pull the rag to the edge, similar to how you would draw the sun's rays if you were drawing it on a piece of paper. Do not rub in a circular motion. This can damage the disc. Repeat this all around the disc.
Apply a disc cleaner to the underside of the disc. Follow the package directions on the appropriate application method. Disc cleaners can be found at electronic or video game stores. It does not have to be specifically for a PlayStation 2 game. Any type of cleaner for game discs, compact discs or DVD's will do.
Use the same motion you used in Step 4 to remove the disc cleaner from the disc. Once the disc is clean of any visible debris and is completely dry, you can place the disc in your game console.
