Making the Backup
Insert the PS2 game disk into the computer's CD/DVD-R/RW drive and launch your preferred CD/DVD burning software. This software needs to be able to create disk image files in order to properly back up PS2 game disks.
Select the "Create Image File" mode when prompted. This mode may also be labeled "Create ISO" or "Make ISO from disk."
Select the CD/DVD-R/RW drive containing your PS2 game disk as the "source" under the appropriate section, then choose a location on your hard drive where you are comfortable saving the the ISO file that will be created.
Click the "Burn" button--this may also be labeled "Write" or "Read" depending on your software. Your PS2 game will now be copied to the computer's hard drive as an image file--usually an ISO. This file can now be burned to a blank CD or DVD to create a physical backup copy of your PS2 disk.
Burning the Image File to a Disk
Eject the PS2 game disk in your computer's CD/DVD-R/RW drive and replace it with a blank CD or DVD. Some PS2 games are burned on CD media, so make sure you have the correct disk for your game. The easiest way to tell if a game is to be burned onto a CD or a DVD is to check the size of the image file. if the size is over 700MB, then it needs to be burned to a DVD.
Launch your preferred CD/DVD burning program again and this time select the "Burn image file to disk" option. This may also be labeled "Write image file to disk" or "burn ISO to disk," depending on the program you use.
Click the "Browse" button and navigate to the location where you saved the ISO file you created in the previous section. Select it and click "OK."
Ensure that the CD/DVD-R/RW drive containing the blank disk is selected as the "destination" drive.
Click the "Burn" button--which may be labeled as "Write" or "Start"--to begin the process of burning your PS2 game to the blank disk.
