Army Games for the PS2

The Playstation 2 brought a number of army games to the forefront of the action, and with graphics much improved over the original Playstation, many of the original games got even better.
  1. "Army Men"

    • This series of games is both an army game and game about little plastic army men. The "Army Men" series began as a PC-based game that quickly spread to other consoles, including the PS2. The series includes titles such as "Sarge's Heroes 2," "Green Rogue," "Portal Runner," "Air Attack 2," "RTS," "Sarge's War," "Major Malfunction" and "Soldiers of Misfortune." Though the games are based around little plastic men, most still carry a "teen" rating due to violence.

    "Vietcong"

    • Vietcong was a controversial title for its time, mostly just for the title. Vietcong is an army game based around the Vietnam War. The game play is a typical first-person shooter in a jungle environment where you'll encounter booby traps, tunnels and enemy soldiers. The open app game play takes you all over the map, though it falls short at times when you stray too far from the "trail" you're supposed to be following to find yourself lost, and it can happen often.

    "Tom Clancy: Ghost Recon"

    • Tom Clancy games are renowned for their game play, at least for their single-player modes. "Ghost Recon" is more of a Special Forces game, with covert stealth based missions, instead of the typical "shoot everyone" infantry style. In these games you lead a team of soldiers through a series of operations strategically taking out enemy soldiers as you go.

    "Medal of Honor"

    • "Medal of Honor" is one of the best first-person shooter games for the Playstation 2 and definitely one of the best multiplayer games. This critically acclaimed game series offers realistic weapons, large environments and satisfying game play. The "Medal of Honor" games went head to head with the "Call of Duty" series up until "Modern Warfare" was released for the next wave of consoles. However, any "Medal of Honor" game is sure to make a huge impact on the video game market.

    "Call of Duty"

    • "Call of Duty" is visually stunning. It is right up there with "Medal of Honor," and between the two, it is difficult to choose a winner. Although "Medal of Honor" offered an excellent four-player multiplayer game, "Call of Duty" had an online option that made the PC games instant hits. "Call of Duty" begins on the beaches of Normandy with a World War II soldier in the middle of all the action, and follows your platoon's surge on the Nazi enemies. The "Call of Duty" games let you experience war in real time, keeping you on edge with suspense, with dazzling fast-paced action sequences.

    "Delta Force: Black Hawk Down"

    • "Delta Force: Black Hawk Down" is based around the elite Delta Force and U.S. Army Rangers teams in Somalia in 1993. The game play has you participating in daring raids against the oppressive Somali warlords, likely inspired by the movie "Black Hawk Down," directed by Ridley Scott. The game allows for a co-op campaign with a friend, four-player multiplayer mode and the normal single-player mode.
