Good Horror Games for PS2

Although the PlayStation 2 console has been overshadowed ever since the release of the PlayStation 3 in 2006, there are still many good games available to play on the older system. Avid fans of video games made for the horror genre in particular have plenty of options to choose from.
  1. Resident Evil 4

    • The fourth game in Capcom's legendary "Resident Evil" series that first appeared in 1996, "Resident Evil 4" nets a score of 9.3 from Gamespot.com, which makes it one of the highest rated action-adventure games to ever be released for PS2 consoles. An exclusive feature to the PS2 is a "Separate Ways" side story that allows the player to reach different endings based on choices made during the game. The plot follows government agent Leon Kennedy as he tries to track down the U.S. president's missing daughter. His chase takes him to a European village where he encounters a variety of foes, both alive and dead.

    Half-Life

    • Originally released for PC gamers in 1998, "Half-Life" tells the story of Gordon Freeman, an ordinary scientist who becomes the unfortunate, unwilling key to another dimension when an experiment at work goes tragically wrong, unleashing aliens into the world in the process. The player takes on first-person control of Freeman as he fights his way out of the disaster area that used to be a mere research lab, and even has to contend with the military when they're sent in to make sure everything inside the building dies and no one on the outside ever learns of the tale. The PS2 version was the first successful attempt at converting the game to a console, and offers some new features in addition to the story mode, such as a deathmatch mode and multiplayer option.

    Silent Hill 3

    • Receiving a lofty score of 8.8 from IGN, "Silent Hill 3" followed up nicely from its predecessors, and the result was what IGN called "a very good, very frightening game." The player is put back into the story that immediately follows "Silent Hill 1," which involves controlling Heather, a regular 17-year-old who finds herself caught in a very unpleasant situation. As the sole possessor of an ability to see an alternate reality where monstrous beings are commonplace, Heather must figure out who she is and why she sees these things before they destroy her.
