WWII Games for PS2

Beginning with 1992's "Wolfenstein 3D" first-person game, World War II action has been an extremely popular genre for video game systems. Graphics and game play has progressed dramatically in the past decade, offering players compelling views into battlefield action. With its strong graphics processing capabilities, the PlayStation 2 console has helped bring this WWII action to millions of players around the globe.
  1. Medal of Honor

    • Released in May 2002 by EA Games, Medal of Honor is one of the first WWII games to become popular on the PlayStation 2. As a first-person shooting game, Medal of Honor puts players into combat, allowing them to experience the chaos of battle firsthand.
The story of Medal of Honor follows a fictional character through a secret mission, set during the events of Operation Market Garden. With intense game play and solid effects, Medal of Honor has been re-released several times with additional missions and stories.

    Call of Duty

    • Call of Duty is published by Activision, and was first available on the PlayStation 2 in November 2006. While originally available only in PC format, the PS2 sequel captures the action of WWII beginning at Normandy. The game follows historic events and battles during the fight to liberate Europe.
Call of Duty is a first-person shooter, allowing players to become immersed in the battlefield. Unlike many other games, however, Call of Duty also allows users to experience the war through the eyes of several Allied soldiers, including British and Polish characters.

    Heroes of the Pacific

    • Following the success of many earlier WWII games, Heroes of the Pacific offers players a view of combat from the sky. Released by Ubisoft in 2005, the game is a combat flight simulator that puts users in the cockpit of Allied aircraft over the Pacific.
Heroes of the Pacific follows the many historic air battles of the era, beginning with Pearl Harbor and continuing to the end of the war. Famous air-to-air engagements such as Midway and Guadalcanal can be played, with rich graphics and arcade-style flying fun.

    Combat Elite

    • While many WWII games for the PlayStation are first-person shooters, Combat Elite changes the perspective as a third-person role playing game. This format allows players to see their character at all times, assuming the identity of an Allied soldier in Europe.
Combat Elite is produced by SouthPeak games and was first available in November 2005. The game focuses on the interaction of characters and the environment, in addition to combat strategy and tactics. Throughout the game play of Combat Elite, players are able to become immersed in the operations of several European countries.
