How to Move PS2 Games to the PSP

Your PlayStation Portable (PSP) is specifically designed to grant you the ability to play games anytime, anywhere. Unfortunately, the basic PSP restricts gamers to only PSP games. While some games released on other platforms have been re-released for the PSP, many great games remain unavailable for PSP players. With the aid of a location-free base station and a Sony PSX, you can stream PlayStation 2 games directly to your PSP. This gives you the ability to play not only PSP games, but games originally released on the PS2 as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Invest in a location-free base station and a Sony PSX. The location-free base station allows you to stream various types of media to your PSP no matter how far away you are. The PSX allows you to upload media files (including PS2 games) to a hard drive for storage.

    • 2

Install your location-free base station software into your home computer via the installation CD. Make sure that you have a stable broadband Internet connection for streaming files. Leave your location-free base station on whenever you want to watch movies or play PS2 games away from home.

    • 3

Connect the PSX to your location-free base station with a USB cable. This will allow it to pull media files, including games, directly from your PSX and stream them to your PSP.

    • 4

Download the latest firmware updates to your PSP. This is important to make sure your PSP is up to date and running as quickly and smoothly as possible. The newest firmware should always be downloaded directly from the Playstation website. Never trust PSP updates that do not come directly from Sony.

    • 5

Upload the PS2 games you want to play on your PSP to the hard drive in the PSX. The storage capacity for games you load on your PSX will depend on which model number you purchase. The higher the model number, the higher the storage capacity. For example, the 5700 model only has a 160GB hard drive, but the 7500 model has a 450GB hard drive.

    • 6

Navigate to the PS2 game you wish to play on your PSP through the cross media bar. The cross media bar will appear on the right side of your PSP screen after hooking up the location-free base station and the PSX. The cross media bar allows you to navigate through all of the media files stored in your PSX using your PSP.

    • 7

Select the game you wish to play via the cross media bar, and play your PS2 game on your PSP. Expect minor lag due to the amount of time it takes the location-free base station to pull data from the PSX and stream that data to your PSP. Some types of games that are dependent on speed and split second reaction time will be difficult to play because of the data transfer lag.
