Determine if the PS2 game you want to back up requires a CD-R or DVD-R method. Look at the side of the disk that is read by the console (that is, the side without the title/logo). The CD style is purple and the DVD style is silver.
Open your disk-copying software. There are many applications capable of copying PS2 games, some of which come bundled with major-brand PCs. If you do not have a package like this already, you can download Alcohol 120%, which has a link in the Resources section.
Insert your PS2 game disk into the PC's disk drive. The software should recognize that you inserted a game disk. If it does not, most applications allow you to identify this manually by selecting Options. You should see an option for "game disk" or, in some software, "PS2" itself. Ensure that the application knows it is creating a game disk image rather than a CD or DVD, so that it doesn't save the data as, for example, audio tracks or DVD chapters.
Save an image of the disk to your hard drive by identifying the folder where you want to save the new file under "Output Path." Then click the "OK" button. Do not try to copy game disks in a read/write mode, since PS2 games have too much data to achieve this in a reasonable amount of time.
Insert the correct type of blank disk (CD-R or DVD-R) and tell the software to burn an image of the data you saved. Again, check Options to make sure you are creating an image of a game disk rather than an audio CD or a video DVD.
