How to Learn to Fly in GTA 5

Completing the Plane Missions

  Complete the Mike Toreno mission "Verdant Meadows." You will need $80,000 to purchase the Verdant Meadows Aircraft Graveyard.

  Enter the flight school behind the Verdant Meadows safe house. Step into the red circle to open the flight school missions.

  Select the "Takeoff" mission. Accelerate the plane with the "X" button until the tail comes off the ground. Slowly pull back on the thumbstick to raise the plane into the air, and click the R3 button to raise the landing gear. Use the thumbstick to fly the plane through the two coronas to complete the mission.

  Select the "Land Plane" mission. Click the R3 button to lower the landing gear, and maneuver the plane through the corona with the thumbstick. Press the Square button to decrease your speed, and slowly lower the plane. As you approach the red circle, gently bring the plane to the ground and taxi along the runway into the circle to complete the mission. If you hit the ground too hard and bounce into the air, use the L2 or R2 buttons to straighten the plane out.

  Select the "Circle Airstrip" mission. Take off from the runway and fly toward the first corona. Maneuver the plane through each successive corona around the airstrip. Do not overturn; use finesse when controlling the plane, and move the thumbstick gently to make turns. Fly through the last corona to complete the mission.

  Select the "Circle Airstrip and Land" mission. Take off from the runway, and fly through each successive corona. As you fly through the last corona, lower your landing gear and decrease your speed. Straighten the plane out so that it faces directly in line with the landing strip, and slowly lower your altitude. Gently bring the plane to the ground, and fly into the red circle to complete the mission.

Completing the Helicopter Missions

  Select the "Helicopter Takeoff" mission. Hold the "X" button to accelerate the helicopter upward. Turn the helicopter completely around with either the L2 or R2 button, and push the thumbstick upward to move forward. Fly through the corona to complete the mission.

  Select the "Land Helicopter" mission. Push the thumbstick forward, and hold the "X" button to fly forward. Push the thumbstick far enough forward that the helicopter also descends as it moves forward. As you approach the red circle, pull the thumbstick back to decrease your speed. Hover over the circle, and press the "L3" button to level the helicopter. Lower your altitude with the "Square" button, and land in the circle to complete the mission.

  Select the "Destroy Targets" mission. Fly the helicopter forward, and fire your guns and missiles at the trucks with the "L1" and "Circle" buttons respectively. Destroy the trucks, and turn the helicopter around. Fly toward the moving cars, and destroy them with the guns and missiles. Fly into the red circle on the airstrip, and land the helicopter to complete the mission.

Completing the Stunt Plane Missions

  Select the "Loop-the-Loop" mission. Hold the "X" button to maintain your speed, and fly through the first corona. Pull back on the thumbstick to fly upward, and loop completely around. Straighten the plane when you have completed the loop, and fly through the second corona to complete the mission.

  Select the "Barrel Roll" mission. Hold the "X" button to maintain your speed, and fly through the first corona. Push the thumbstick to the left to do a barrel roll. Straighten the plane when you complete the barrel roll, and fly through the second corona.

  Select the "Parachute Onto Target" mission. Push the thumbstick up for 20 seconds, and then press the "Circle" button to open your parachute. Pull the thumbstick back to maneuver yourself forward, and tweak your heading with the thumbstick to land in the target area and complete the mission.
