Controls
The PS2 controller uses the "Start" button to access the weapon and magic menus. The left analog stick is used in conjunction with the four face buttons to move and attack, and the directional pad allows the player to select various types of magic to be deployed.
Level Patterns
Each level requires various patterns of the same moves to complete. Occasionally, a level will require a player to perform a special action that is composed of a series of buttons in sequence, but jumps, rolls, moves and attacks in various patterns are sufficient for completing most problems.
Enemy Patterns
Enemies come in droves in all "God of War" games. The method of defeating them varies from opponent to opponent, but each type of enemy is defeated in the same way. The exception to this is boss fights or mini-boss fights. Each regular opponent can also be defeated in specialized ways for extra bonuses by pressing the button symbol that appears above his head when he is near death.
Boss Patterns
Each boss moves in predictable patterns and gives tell-tale signs when he is about to perform a specific attack. This gives the player sufficient time to avoid attacks, so that boss fights are largely a matter of figuring out vulnerable areas and wearing them down. Boss fights are traditionally the hardest part of any game, so once you have the boss fights figured out, the rest should be comparably easier.
