Unlock him first. This may be difficult, but try your best. Turn on the PS2 or Xbox, tap through the intro and load up a story or free mode. Gasp! He's already there! How cool is that?
Use his natural speed. While he may contend with Kunoichi for the title of fastest character, Hanzo can outrun everyone and everything else. There is no need to give him a horse or the tengu sandals. He can outrun the horses and the tengu sandals give no appreciable speed bonus.
Hit them hard and fast. Hanzo's moves may not have as much power behind them as Ranmaru, Keiji or Goemon's, but he does have one thing they can't even begin to touch: speed. All of Hanzo's attacks are designed to hit opponents with lightning speed. Bear this in mind.
Confuse them. Hanzo's first charge attack is a large smoke bomb that confuses nearby enemies for a short period of time. However, be aware that it has a huge charge time.
Remember to double jump. Remember those attics in the castles that can save your life? Only Kunoichi and Hanzo can reach them. If you see a ladder leading up, jump and jump!
Use his normal attack string. This more than anything else will make very short work of officers. It is a bit erratic, slashing from side to side. If possible, try and push them against a wall, then go at them from the side. This will run you against the wall, keeping you and the enemy in a straight line.
Run away if you need to. It's what real ninjas did, and you should too. Hanzo is not a samurai, he does not wear heavy armor. He does not have the stamina, strength or defense to wade through a storm of enemies and soak a lot of damage. If you start to hurt, run away and look for a gate or other power up. Don't worry, no one will chase you, and if they do, they'll never catch you.
Get the phonies! Hanzo is one of the best characters for eliminating enemy ninjas. He is lightning fast (like them) and attacks just as quickly, leaving you with a trail of power ups and slain ninjas.
