How to Get Past the Gate Gigas on Final Fantasy XII on PlayStation 2

Your party will need some outside help if you want to unlock Gate Gigas in the PlayStation 2 video game "Final Fantasy XII." This gate leads to the Ancient City of Giruvegan, a forgotten dungeon containing the Esper Shemhazai. To get inside Gate Gigas, you need to have control of the Esper Belias. To obtain Belias, you'll have to complete the Tomb of Raithwall, which is directly west of the Nam-Yensa Sandsea. After navigating through this treacherous area, you must defeat Belias to gain him as an Esper.

Instructions

  Save your game at the Gate Crystal outside the Tomb of Raithwall. Examine the Way Stone and choose the "Touch the device" option to go inside. Move down the stairs and you will have to fight a Demon Wall. You can try defeating it, or simply run away.

  Go down the middle path to the Ancient Door. Examine it to proceed to the next area, where you will have to fight another Demon Wall. Locate the red "Altar of Contemplation" orbs along the ledge. Examine the orbs and choose the second option to stop the Demon Wall from advancing. Defeat it to continue.

  Watch the scenes and you will end up in Royal Passage. Take one of the exits to the Northfall Passage. Make your way to the Northfall Pedestal in the middle of the dungeon. Examine it and activate the Way Stone. Defeat the three Zombie Mages that appear and take the Way Stone back to Royal Passage.

  Exit south to Southfall Passage. Proceed to the middle of the area and activate the Southfall Pedestal by examining it. Defeat the three Lichs that appear and make your way back to Royal Passage.

  Teleport to either the Northfall or Southfall Passage by using the Way Stone. Although the map will display a two-way path out of the area, there will be another path here. Follow this hidden path to a doorway leading to Cloister of Flame. Make your way to the entrance to Chamber of First Light and you will enter a battle with Belias. Win the fight to gain him as an Esper.

  Make your way to Edge of Reason in the Feywood. Examine the glyph in the center of the area. Run through the forest illusion that appears and head north to the next glyph. Examine and run through the forest illusion for this glyph, then do the same for the eastern and southern glyphs. Gate Gigas will appear to the south.

  Summon Belias and examine Gate Gigas. Choose the second option and Belias will open the way for you.
