What to Do With the Magic Jar in FFX

In "Final Fantasy X," you defeat most enemies using a combination of powerful physical attacks and magic spells. Some enemies, though, don't go down so easily. Deep within the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth hides a small purple creature who makes its home in a strange orange jar. This enemy, called the "Magic Urn," is seemingly indestructible. If you manage to defeat it, you are rewarded with a valuable prize.
  1. The Magic Urn's Stats

    • The Magic Urn, despite its rather innocent appearance, is a frustrating opponent for many players. It has 999,999 HP and 9,999 MP. Even if the Magic Urn is attacked, its HP never decreases. The Magic Urn is immune to virtually all spell abilities, including poison, petrify and zombie. It has a Defense and Magic Defense stat of 255. Its Magic stat is 40, so the Magic Urn dishes out serious damage if you are unlucky and it attacks you.

    The Magic Urn's Weaknesses

    • The Magic Urn has just a few weaknesses. Exploiting these weaknesses allows you to defeat the Magic Urn, but it will not earn you any special prizes. One weakness is the Doom spell. When cast, this decreases the Magic Urn's HP by 5,000 points every turn. This eventually results in the Magic Urn's destruction, but because of its high HP, it takes 200 turns before the creature dies. The Magic Urn is also defeated by Yuna's summon, Yojimbo. When Yojimbo casts his Zanmato spell, the Magic Urn dies instantly.

    Basic Strategy

    • The Magic Urn offers several rewards if you defeat it in the correct way. This method, unfortunately, requires you to gamble with your character's lives. The Magic Urn bears five strange "eye" symbols on its body. When you attack one, a message appears on the screen, either "Bingo!" or "Wrong!" You get the "Bingo!" message if you hit the one correct eye on the Magic Urn's body. The correct eye changes position every time you fight the Magic Urn. If you get a "Bingo!," you receive a prize. If you see "Wrong" however, all characters in your party are severely damaged. Either way, the Magic Urn disappears and the battle ends.

    Rewards

    • If you receive a "Bingo!" message after attacking one of the Magic Urn's eyes, you get one of seven rewards. The first is a Phoenix Down, a basic item that revives a character when they are knocked out. The second is an Elixir, an item that restores all of your HP and MP. Another item is a Frag Grenade, a weapon that is thrown at enemies to do moderate damage. The fourth prize is the Lunar Curtain, an item that casts Shell on a character. The fifth prize, the Silver Hourglass, slows an enemy down, and the sixth item, the Stamina Tablet, temporarily doubles your maximum HP. The final prize, Soul Spring, allows you to absorb an enemy's HP and MP.
