How to Get Through God of War

"God of War" isn't just a button-mashing action title. You'll encounter plenty of heart-pounding battles as you play, but patience and attention to detail are major game factors as well. Successfully completing "God of War" requires a working knowledge of several game-play components. Kratos, the game's hero, will face a host of different enemies and situations during his trek through Greek mythology. If you're aware of his surroundings and adapt your fighting skills accordingly, you'll have no trouble getting through the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Conserve health by dodging and defending your enemies' attacks. Kratos isn't just an offensive character. He possesses valuable defensive skills as well. Watch your opponent closely to determine when an attack is coming, then guard with the "L1" button. You can also attempt to evade the attack by using the right analog stick to dodge.

    • 2

Upgrade your weapons often. The enemies will get increasingly difficult as the game progresses. Use the red orbs to power up your weapons and level the playing field.

    • 3

Maximize your experience. Obtain as many red orbs as possible from enemies by trying to defeat them with moves that will give more experience. For example, freezing an enemy with Medusa's Gaze will earn Kratos an experience bonus and increase the amount of red orbs the enemy drops. You can also acquire an experience bonus by scoring a combo higher than 10, then finishing off an enemy with a grab.

    • 4

Use the environment to your advantage. Kratos will battle in a variety of settings throughout the game. Defeat an enemy quickly by pushing it off a ledge or into water. Attempt to coax the enemy into a trap meant for Kratos. Any alternative to a prolonged battle will save health and time.

    • 5

Avoid wasting health and magic chests. If you encounter a chest and don't need the extra health or magic, don't open it. You can always backtrack and refill if you experience a difficult battle later in the level.

    • 6

Monitor the entire screen. You'll be fighting multiple enemies during many battles. Watch for attacks from all angles and don't focus entirely on a single opponent. Adjust your battle strategy when another enemy swoops in unexpectedly.
