How to Kill the Troll in Fangorn in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

The Cave Troll in "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" can be an intimidating foe. You will first encounter this gruesome monster in Balin's Tomb, where you will have the rest of your party to aid you in defeating it. When you're alone later in the game, you will have to face another Cave Troll in Fangorn Forest. Its heavy club is too powerful to parry, so the best strategy for defeating this monster is a combination of timely dodges and attacks.

Instructions

- 1
  Proceed through Fangorn Forest until you reach a cut-scene featuring a pair of orcs being thrown against a log. Stop here to make preparations for the Cave Troll.

  Check your inventory and prepare any curative potions you have. The Cave Troll's attacks can reduce a significant portion of your health, so you need to be able to recover quickly. When you're ready, proceed around the corner and into the clearing to face the Cave Troll.

  Dodge the logs the Cave Troll hurls as you get into close range. When you're close enough, hit him with a single fierce attack. You can also try the devastating attack by holding the triangle button until your sword glows, then releasing.

  Jump back by pressing the L2 button when the Cave Troll swings in retaliation. You can also simply run out of the way of his club, but be sure to stay close. The Cave Troll will begin throwing logs again if you get too far away.

  Close in for another attack after the Cave Troll swings his club. Continue alternately dodging and attacking until he falls. If your health gets low during the fight, use a potion to recover. Defeating the Cave Troll will take around nine hits with the fierce attack. If you manage to connect with the devastating attacks, the battle will be over after just a few rounds.
