How to Save PS1 Game Saves to PS2 Memory Cards

You cannot directly save a PlayStation 1 game to a PlayStation 2 memory card onto the PS2 console. Saving a game while playing still requires a PS1 memory card. However, if you want to free up space on your PS1 memory card, you can transfer those safe files over to your PlayStation 2 memory card using the built-in memory card manager of the console.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the PlayStation 2 memory card you are trying to use into the first memory card slot on the front of your console. Insert the PlayStation 1 memory card that contains the game save you want to move into the second memory card slot on the front of the console.

    • 2

Turn on your PlayStation 2. Remove any game disc to load the console's main menu, as opposed to the game's main menu.

    • 3

Select the icon for your PlayStation 1 memory card. Every game save on the memory card will appear in the form of an icon on-screen.

    • 4

Highlight the PlayStation 1 game save you want to transfer and select the "Copy" option on-screen. Select the PlayStation 2 memory card as your destination to save the PS1 file to the PS2 memory card.
