Wind and Elevation
As in the real world, in-game wind speed and direction affect how far the ball will travel. The way you respond will depend on the character you choose to play. When turbo spin is activated, the ball is sent higher and becomes more vulnerable to the wind. Virtual golfers with average spin, for instance, require one mph of wind per square tile for better accuracy. Elevation is not a problem until it goes beyond 8 yards; when this happens, the player has to compensate for the added height by calculating vertical distance, which you can do by multiplying the distance in yards by 0.3.
Spin and Roll
Spin is an important part of the game because it dictates how the ball behaves once it hits the ground. A great shot is almost guaranteed if you can time it correctly; unlike other aspects of the game, though, there is not much you can do to compensate for spinning or rolling with the controller after you have made your shot, as the game is programmed in such a way that the shot you make will determine the spin or roll. Also, there is not much difference when using turbo spin or normal spin.
Lie &Weather
This concept is related to the position of the ball, which affects how relatively difficult a shot is to play. A ball's lie has a major effect on the result of your shot, and therefore will affect your game. Horizontal slanting in any direction must be compensated for properly in order to make a good shot. Compensating for a slanting ball is just a matter of trial and error; hit harder if the ball goes backwards on an incline to overcome the upwards slope, and do the opposite going down a hill. The game also takes weather into consideration; an icon in the lower right corner communicates the weather to assist players.
Turbos and Putting
Unlike golf in real life, players in Golf 4 have the option of using "turbos." Two options are available for players to use: the "power shot" increases the ball's distance by ten yards, which is great for reaching distant holes, and "full shot" also increases distance but by up to 15 yards. When putting, try to listen to what the caddy is saying, as it often offers clues on how to putt properly. Putting can also be improved with practice and patience.
