Singing Lessons
The interface for vocals in "Rock Band" is an arrow indicator that is pitch sensitive -- it moves up when your pitch is higher and down when your pitch is lower. Hum some different notes at the beginning of the song to get a feel for the scale. You won't lose points if you do this before the vocals start. On sections of songs when no notes appear, sing or speak anything to earn points. These are the spoken parts of songs that do not have to be sung to a particular key.
Shredding the Axe
You do not have to wait until a note enter the target area as it scrolls down the screen to hit the fret when playing the guitar. Instead, you can hold the fret down and then "strum" at the proper time. Use hammer-ons and pull-offs to help you master tricky sections of songs. When you see a short note following a long note you can use this technique, which requires you to quickly hit the proper fret without strumming. Most songs feature plenty of long notes with a line extending from the note. Hold the note to earn extra points.
Drum Fills &Big Finishes
To activate overdrive for the drums, which will double your point total for a brief period, you must hit a combination first to fill the special bars. When the bars appear either hit the kick stand or complete a drum roll. This will activate a cymbal crash target. Hit this target by tapping the cymbal at the right time to make the overdrive begin. Many songs allow you to use a freeform technique for a big finish -- and bonus points. When the multi-colored lines appear at the end of the song, hit any of the drums you desire as quickly as possible to earn points.
Unlock All Songs
Use a cheat to unlock all of the songs in the game from the start. Go to the title screen and enter this color combination on the guitar or drums: "Red," "Yellow," "Blue," "Red," "Red," "Blue," "Blue," "Red," "Yellow," "Blue." Activating this cheat will disable your ability to save; keep that in mind.
