Instructions

  1. Assembling the Instruments

    • 1

Attach the guitar head stalk to the guitar body. Slide the head stalk onto the neck of the guitar and snap it into place.

    • 2

Open the battery compartment on the back of the guitar by removing the battery compartment cover and insert 3 AA batteries into the slots. Replace the battery compartment cover.

    • 3

Attach the guitar strap by sliding the holes (one on each end of the strap) into the appropriate bolts located on the guitar. One bolt is located at the base of the guitar and the other is located at the top of the body near the curved edge.

    • 4

Assemble the base of the drum stand by inserting the two base rods into the two side mounts. Insert the two side stands into the two holes on the side mounts to form the drum stand. Lock the latches onto the side of the stands to lock them in place.

    • 5

Open the battery compartment on the underside of the drum set. Insert 3 AA batteries into the battery compartment and replace the cover.

    • 6

Attach the drum set to the drum stand by sliding the holes on the underside of the drum set onto to the poles of the drum stand. Lock the latches on the back of the drum set to lock it into place.

    • 7

Attach the symbols stands to the drum set by sliding the symbols onto the symbol mounts. Adjust the height so they are comfortable for you to play. Lock them into place by locking the latch on the pole.

    • 8

Attach the symbols onto the symbol stand and secure them in place with the color-coded wing nuts provided with the "Rock Band 2" set. From left to right, attach the wing nuts as follows: yellow, blue and then green.

    • 9

Insert the symbol cords into the appropriate, color-coded plugs on the back of the drum set.

    • 10

Plug your microphone into the first player controller port on your PlayStation 2.

    Starting the Game

    • 11

Choose a game mode: Battle of the Bands, Tour Challenges, World Tour or No-Fail Mode. "Rock Band 2" uses a drum kit, which was not an available instrument in the original "Rock Band" game. Choose "Drum Trainer" to practice drums and get used to playing them before you start playing the game. Choose the difficulty of which you want to play. The harder the difficulty, the more complicated it is to accurately play the correct notes.

    • 12

Choose a character. Choose from a list of pre-made characters or design your own in the character creation mode.

    • 13

Choose the instrument you want to play. Choose from rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass, drums or vocals.

    • 14

Make a set list by searching through the list of available songs and selecting the songs you want to play. Each game mode and each arena requires you to select a different number of songs; select the correct number of songs to being playing.

Playing the Game -- Guitar and Bass

    • 15

Press the colored button on the neck of the guitar that corresponds with the note shown on the screen. The notes fall from the top of the screen. Press the appropriate colored button as it passes the line at the bottom of the screen. Press and hold the appropriate button when the note has a line above it, which indicates an elongated note. Release the button when the note ends. Notes alternate between colors, change speed and vary in pattern. Earn a high score by playing the correct notes and stringing together multiple notes in a row.

    • 16

Flick the "pick" on the guitar, which is the white bar located on the front of the body, when each note passes the line at the bottom of the screen. Don't flick the pick too early or too late. Mistimed notes break combinations and displease the crowd. The crowd will boo you off the stage if you play poorly, thus ending your game.

    • 17

Tilt your guitar until the neck is vertical to the ground to activate "Star Power," which multiplies your score for a short period of time. "Star Power" is earned by accurately hitting large combinations of notes without missing notes.

    Playing the Game -- Drums

    • 18

Hit the appropriate colored drum pad as the notes pass the line at the bottom of your TV screen. Use the provided drumsticks to tap the pads. Don't hit the notes too early or too late. Mistimed drumming leads to poor scores and bad crowd reactions.

    • 19

Step on the bass pedal, which is the pedal lying on the floor, when the horizontal orange line passes the white line at the bottom of the screen.

    • 20

Hit the appropriately colored symbol as the notes surrounded by small circles pass by the white line at the bottom of the screen. When multiple small circles appear, quickly hit the symbols as fast as you can to gain bonus points.

    Playing the Game - Vocals

    • 21

Sing the notes that appear on the screen into the microphone. The game does not register your pronunciation of the words, only the pitch of your voice.

    • 22

Hold the notes on words that are followed by a line, as this indicates an elongated note. Stop singing the word when the line ends.

    • 23

Change the pitch of your voice to correspond with the pitch on the screen. Raise the pitch of your voice to move the accuracy meter up when the song requires you to sing with a high pitch. Lower the pitch of your voice to move the accuracy meter down when the song requires you to sing with a low pitch. Be accurate or the crowd will boo you off the stage.

    • 24

Tap the microphone to either the palm of your hand or your thigh when a small white circle appears on lyrics bar. Tap the microphone with the beat of the song, which is indicated by the white circles.
