How to Use a Lag Switch With PS3

A lag switch is a device that induces and mimics connection lag into a game in order for the user to receive a playing advantage. This method is extremely advantageous in first-person shooting games as it allows the player to completely disappear from the game. The player is then able to kill opponents and collect items while the others players are practically stunned. The switch is flipped on and then the game returns to normal.

Things You'll Need

Flathead screwdriver
Wire cutter
Ethernet cable
Electrical tape
Light switch
Lighter
Paper towel

Instructions

Creating the Lag Switch

  Take the basic ethernet cable and cut through the plastic sheath of the wiring, but do not cut any of the inner wiring. This will give you access to the needed wires within the cable cord.

  Pull back the plastic sheathe to reveal the wires hiding underneath.

  Locate the solid orange wire that is in the bundle of wires. Make sure to separate the orange wire away from any other wiring.

  Cut the orange wire in half and then use a lighter to burn off the plastic. Use paper towels to wipe off any excess plastic.

  Connect the exposed wire to the light switch by unscrewing the screws and then wrapping the wire around the screws. Screw back in the screws of the light switch.

  Wrap the electric tape neatly around the light switch to keep all the wiring packed tightly.

  Connect the Ethernet cable to the PS3 gaming console and to the Internet connection.

  Flip the switch to introduce lag into your game; however, remember the lag switch can only be on for roughly 10 seconds before it disconnects you.
